No. 1 South Carolina needs OT to edge rival

Bree Hall hit a threepoint­er with 42 seconds left in overtime, Aliyah Boston overcame early foul trouble to score 14, including the tying jumper with two seconds left in regulation, and No. 1 and defending champion South Carolina rallied past second-ranked Stanford 7671 on Sunday in a dramatic early-season showdown.

Victaria Saxton missed two free throws with 24.3 seconds left but a jump ball moments later gave possession to the Gamecocks (4-0).

Stanford(5-1) blew late opportunit­ies. With 10 seconds left it couldn’t get the ball in bounds before a fivesecond violation. With 3.4 seconds left, the Cardinal received a technical after calling a timeout it didn’t have.

No. 6 Louisville 71, No. 3 Texas 63: Chrislyn Carr scored 19 points to help lift Louisville in the consolatio­n bracket, sending the Longhorns to their second straight loss at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.

UCLA 80, No. 11 Tennessee 63: Charisma Osborne scored 23 points and hit five three-pointers to help the Bruins upset Tennessee in the Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals.

at No. 1 North Carolina 80, James Madison 64: RJ Davis scored 21 points, Armando Bacot had 19 points and 23 rebounds, and North Carolina improved to 4-0.

No. 2 Gonzaga 88, No. 4 Kentucky 72: Rasir Bolton had 24 points, Drew Timme added 22, and Gonzaga beat cold-shooting Kentucky in the off-campus Spokane Arena. Julian Strawther had 20 points and 14 rebounds for Gonzaga (3-1).

No. 16 Virginia 70, No. 19 Illinois 61: The Cavaliers (4-0)capped an emotional week by going on a late 13point run to win the Continenta­l Tire Main Event in Las Vegas.
