Rice helps UCLA survive in overtime

Freshman Kiki Rice led the No. 20 UCLA women’s basketball team to a 66-58 overtime win over Marquette on Monday in the championsh­ip game of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Rice had a career-high 18 points and seven rebounds, with grad transfer Gina Conti notching 16 points. UCLA leading scorer Charisma Osborne had just nine points but added a seasonhigh six assists as the Bruins (6-0) slogged through their third game in as many days.

After starting the tournament with a 72-65 win against South Dakota State on Saturday to avenge a season-ending loss in the WNIT last year, UCLA took down then-No. 11 Tennessee in the semifinals Sunday behind a historic three-point effort. The Bruins poured in 16 three-pointers on 30 attempts, tying a single-game record in makes.

The Bruins jumped into the Associated Press top 25 on Monday.

Myah Selland scored 14 of her 25 points in a dominant fourth quarter to help South Dakota State earn the upset in the fifth-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Gonzaga 73, No. 23 Tennessee 72:

Yvonne Ejim, who finished with 22 points, scored the go-ahead basket inside with 12.4 seconds left in the third-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis.
