‘THE FABELMANS’

-

Say good morning to Round 2 of the BuzzMeter, in which our six motionpicture pundits put aside personal preferences and get down to some serious prognosticating. Their picks for what the academy will nominate carry good news and bad news for a Hollywood legend. Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” (with Julia Butters and Gabriel LaBelle, above) lands at No. 1, meaning it’s the movie the panel is most certain will be nominated for best picture in a field unusually full of “popular films.” But panelist Justin Chang laments reactions to Spielberg’s autofiction make it sound “more admired than loved,” while Tim Cogshell puts it in the category of films the academy is assured to nominate but shouldn’t. See the panel’s full comments and predictions at latimes.com/ buzzmeter, where you can also vote for your own slate.
