Boilermake­rs get bounce-back win

Fletcher Loyer made a go-ahead three-pointer with 11 seconds left and No. 1 Purdue bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 71-69 victory over host No. 24 Ohio State on Thursday night.

The Boilermake­rs (14-1, 3-1 Big Ten) trailed 69-66 with 41 seconds remaining after Ohio State’s Sean McNeil made a three-pointer.

Zach Edey responded with a bucket, and Purdue forced a turnover on the Buckeyes’ next possession.

After Loyer’s three, the Boilermake­rs defended Ohio State’s final possession and Brice Sensabaugh’s final shot didn’t get off in time.

Sensabaugh scored 21 points for Ohio State (10-4, 2-1).

No. 9 Gonzaga 77, at San Francisco 75:

Rasir Bolton scored on a follow shot with seven seconds left to give the Bulldogs their first lead since the opening minutes in a victory at San Francisco. Gonzaga (13-3, 2-0 West Coast Conference) has won 80 straight games against unranked opponents but trailed nearly the entire way against the Dons (11-7, 0-3).

at Iowa 91, No. 15 Indiana 89:

Kris Murray had 30 points and 10 rebounds and the Hawkeyes (9-6, 1-3 Big

Ten) rallied from a 21-point, first-half deficit to beat the Hoosiers (10-4, 1-2).

Women

No. 5 Connecticu­t 73, at Xavier 37:

Aubrey Griffin scored 19 points and the injury-riddled Huskies (13-2, 6-0 Big East), playing without coach Geno Auriemma because of illness, earned their sixth straight victory.

at No. 7 Louisiana State 74, Texas A&M 34:

Angel Reese had a school-record 28 rebounds and 26 points as the Tigers (15-0, 3-0 Southeaste­rn Conference) matched their best start to a season with their 15th win.

at No. 9 Virginia Tech 74, Virginia 66:

Georgia Amoore scored 22 points to lift the Hokies (13-2, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) over the Cavaliers (13-2, 2-2) despite missing leading scorer Elizabeth Kitley.
