- wire reports

Authorities said Tuesday a University of Alabama basketball player charged with capital murder provided the gun used in a fatal shooting.

Investigators wrote in a court document that Darius Miles admitted to providing the handgun immediately before the shooting. Another man, Michael Davis, is accused of firing the gun and killing a young woman, Jamea Harris, early Sunday near the university.

Alabama said in a statement that Miles is no longer on the team.

Connecticut’s athletic department deficit rose to $53 million in the 2022 fiscal year. The school said the increase can be attributed to $13.4 million it was forced to pay former men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie.
