- Wire reports

Bruce Boudreau was fired as coach of the Vancouver Canucks, who are again on track to miss the playoffs.

The team announced the change Sunday, less than a week after president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford said “major surgery” was needed to fix the Canucks, who have made the playoffs only once in the last eight years.

Rick Tocchet was hired as Boudreau’s replacement for Vancouver (18-25-3).

“This was not an easy decision to make but one that we felt was necessary for this franchise,” general manager Patrik Allvin said.

Boudreau, 68, is the second coach the Canucks have fired in less than 14 months. Boudreau took over in December 2021 when previous coach Travis Green and general manager Jim Benning were let go.
