Iowa women deal Ohio State first loss

Caitlin Clark scored a game-high 28 points and Monika Czinano added 22 as No. 10 Iowa defeated No. 2 Ohio State 83-72, giving the Buckeyes their first loss of the season.

Iowa’s 12-point lead almost midway through the third quarter narrowed to three with 9:05 left in the fourth. Ohio State’s Cotie McMahon scored five of her 21 points in the final frame, but Czinano went three for three in the fourth quarter to help keep the Buckeyes at bay.

The Hawkeyes (16-4, 8-1 Big Ten) kept Ohio State scoreless for more than 21⁄2 minutes in the fourth quarter, allowing Czinano and Iowa to command a 13-point advantage with 3:11 left.

Ohio State (19-1, 8-1) gave it one more try and went four for nine from the field in the final three minutes, but the Hawkeyes made all eight attempts at the free-throw line in that span to seal the win.

No. 4 Louisiana State 89, at Alabama 51:

Jasmine Carson scored 20 points and Angel Reese had 14 points and 14 rebounds for her schoolreco­rd 20th consecutiv­e double-double to lead LSU. The Tigers (20-0, 8-0 Southeaste­rn Conference) extended the program’s longest winning streak to 20 games. The Crimson Tide (15-5, 4-3) had a three-game winning streak stopped.

No. 6 Indiana 92, at No. 13 Michigan 83:

Mackenzie Holmes had 25 points and 10 rebounds in leading Indiana to its sixth straight win. Leigha Brown scored 31 points to lead Michigan, whose three-game winning streak ended.

Men

at No. 17 Baylor 75, No. 9 Kansas 69:

LJ Cryer had 22 points with five three-pointers and Baylor stretched its Big 12-best winning streak to five games with win over Kansas in a matchup of the last two national champions. The reigning champion Jayhawks (16-4, 5-3 Big 12), coming off a 23-point home loss to Texas Christian, lost their third straight game. It’s only their fourth threegame losing streak in coach Bill Self ’s 20 seasons.

at Nevada 97, No. 25 New Mexico 94, 2OT:

Will Baker scored a career-high 28 points and made two free throws with 14 seconds remaining in the second overtime to help Nevada knock off New Mexico (18-3, 5-3 Mountain West Conference). Baker sank 12 of 17 shots with a three-pointer for the Wolf Pack (16-5, 6-2).

Polls

Purdue is back at No. 1 in the men’s Associated Press top 25, followed by Alabama, Houston, Tennessee and Kansas State. Gonzaga is out of the top 10.

For the first time in the 47-year history of the AP women’s poll, no team from Texas is in the top 25. That ends an 835-week run dating to the first poll in 1976. South Carolina remained a unanimous No. 1.
