Man is fatally shot by deputy in Maywood

Gunfire occurred at a home as the Sheriff ’s Department served a search warrant.

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man Thursday morning in Maywood, authorities said.

The shooting was called in around 5:45 a.m. at a residence in the 6100 block of Clarkson Avenue, where detectives had been serving a search warrant, according to authorities.

Deputies serving the warrant detained one man on the front porch of the home and “made announcements demanding entry,” the L.A. County Sheriff ’s Department said in a news release.

A woman, who identified herself as the owner of the home, then exited a side door and was detained.

A second man inside the residence became “verbally aggressive” with deputies and allegedly “armed himself with a firearm” and told deputies to leave, according to the Sheriff ’s Department.

Deputies tried to inform the man that he was not their “focus,” but the man approached a side door holding a firearm pointed at the ceiling before pointing the gun at deputies, authorities said.

At least one deputy fired their weapon, striking the man several times in upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene by L.A. County Fire Department personnel, according to the Sheriff ’s Department.
