Gibson sets record in loss

- Wire reports

Pierre-Olivier Joseph had two goals and an assist, and Evgeni Malkin had two assists to become the third player in franchise history to reach 1,200 career points as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Ducks 6-3 Friday night.

John Gibson made 53 saves, a franchise record for a regular-season game, on a Penguins road-record 59 shots. Mason McTavish had a goal and an assist while Trevor Zegras and John Klingberg also scored for the Ducks, who had a five-game point streak stopped.

“We played a hesitant game,” Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. “We were chasing the game . ... We don’t want to stand back and defend. We’ve got to go check. And for a good part of that game, I thought we stood in awe of some of their players.”

Malkin reached the milestone with the primary assist on Bryan Rust’s goal at 10:04 of the third period. He joined Mario Lemieux

(1,723) and Sidney Crosby (1,472) as the only Penguins players to reach that mark.

Joseph came into the game with two goals this season and three goals in 66 career games.

Terry placed on IR

Ducks All-Star forward Troy Terry was placed on injured reserve and is week to week, the team said. Terry got hurt early in the game Monday against Dallas.

The Ducks also recalled goaltender Olle Eriksson Ek.
