Bakersfiel­d surprises Irvine

The Cal State Bakersfiel­d women’s team, which won three conference games all season, got 19 points from Taylor Caldwell and 18 from Kayla Morris to stun topseeded UC Irvine 61-59 in double overtime in the quarterfin­als of the Big West Tournament on Wednesday in Henderson, Nev.

Freshman guard Garrisen Freeman played all 50 minutes and delivered nine points and six rebounds for the Roadrunner­s (8-22), who will face UC Santa Barbara on Friday at noon.

In the first overtime, Irvine’s Nyagoa Gony made a baseline jumper at the buzzer to tie it at 55-55 and force a second OT.

Irvine (24-6) led 59-56 in the second overtime but went scoreless for nearly the last four minutes.

Bakersfiel­d got a threepoint­er from Morris with 2:45 left to tie the score, and then went ahead when Caldwell made a jumper with 22 seconds left.

Long Beach State 55, UC Riverside 49:

Tori Harris scored 14 points as the Beach (23-8) held off the Highlander­s (6-26) in a quarterfin­al game in the Big West tournament.

Hawaii 82, Cal State Fullerton 75 (2 OT):

Lily Wahinekapu scored 20 points to lead the Rainbow Wahines (15-14) over the Titans (14-15) in a Big West quarterfin­al game.

California Baptist 81, Utah Tech 72:

Chloe Webb scored 17 points as the Lancers (18-12) beat the Trailblaze­rs

(19-12) in a quarterfin­al game of the Western Athletic Conference tournament in Las Vegas.

No. 21 Nevada Las Vegas 71, Wyoming 60:

Desi-Rae Young had 28 points and 17 rebounds as the Runnin’ Rebels (31-2) knocked off the Cowgirls (22-10) in the final of the Mountain West tournament at Las Vegas to clinch the conference’s automatic NCAA berth.

Sacramento State 76, Northern Arizona 63:

Jordan Olivares scored a career-high 26 points as the Hornets (25-7) earned their first trip to the NCAA tournament by beating the Lumberjack­s (21-13) in the Big Sky tournament final at Boise, Idaho.

Colorado 74, Washington 68: Julian Hammond III scored a career-high 21 points and Luke O’Brien made a go-ahead threepoint­er with 59.8 seconds left to help the Buffaloes (17-15) fend off the Huskies (16-16) in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament at Las Vegas. Colorado will face UCLA in a quarterfin­al Thursday.

Washington State California 52:

69, TJ Bamba scored 17 points and the Cougars (17-15) knocked off the Golden Bears (3-29) to advance to the quarterfin­als against Oregon.

Stanford 73, Utah 62:

Brandon Angel had 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Cardinal (14-18) beat the Utes (1715) to reach the quarterfin­als against Arizona.

Arizona State 63, Oregon State 57:

Warren Washington scored 15 points and the Sun Devils (21-11) held off a late charge by the Beavers (11-21) to advance to the quarterfin­als against USC.

Montana State 85, Northern Arizona 78:

Raequan Battles scored 25 points to lift the Bobcats (25-9) over the Lumberjack­s (12-23) in the championsh­ip of the Big Sky tournament to earn an NCAA bid.
