UCLA adding Stanford transfer

The UCLA women’s basketball team picked up a commitment from Stanford transfer Lauren Betts, adding the former No. 1 prospect in last year’s recruiting class.

Betts, a 6-foot-7 center, averaged 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 9.7 minutes and was a Pac-12 all-freshman honorable mention.

Guard Gina Conti is the only UCLA starter who will not return, as seniors Charisma Osborne and Camryn Brown announced they would stay for a fifth season.

College basketball player of the year Zach Edey of Purdue declared for the NBA draft but will keep open the option of returning to school. ... Miami’s Isaiah Wong, the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year, is entering the draft.

New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is likely to be sidelined for six weeks because of a strained left hamstring. ...
