USC wins beach volleyball title

Twins Audrey and Nicole Nourse of USC beat the Bruins’ Haley Hallgren and Rileigh Powers 21-18, 19-21, 1511 to give the third-seeded Trojans a 3-2 win over topranked and No. 1 seed UCLA in the NCAA beach volleyball championsh­ip in Gulf Shores, Ala. The title is USC’s third in a row.

Jenna Johnson and Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope of USC (32-5) beat the Bruins’ Marlie Monserez and Jess Smith 22-20, 21-14 in Match 4, and in Match 2, USC’s Madison White and Madison Shields beat UCLA’s Abby Van Winkle and Peri Brennan 24-22, 23-21, 15-9 to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.

UFC veteran Tony Ferguson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence early Sunday after his truck struck other vehicles and rolled over in Hollywood, police said. Ferguson, a former interim lightweigh­t champion for the Ultimate Fighting Championsh­ip, was driving south on Wilcox Avenue around 1:47 a.m. when his Silverado hit at least two other vehicles and flipped over near Sunset Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
