Ex-Cal, Vikings star Kapp dies

Joe Kapp, the hardnosed quarterbac­k who led the Minnesota Vikings to their first Super Bowl appearance, in the 1969 season, and California to its last Rose Bowl berth, in the 1959 game, died. He was 85.

Cal confirmed that Kapp died Monday. He had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for the last 15 years, his son J.J. Kapp said.

Kapp was a four-sport athlete at Hart High in Newhall. APPRECIATI­ON, B1
