Brother of LSU player arrested

The brother of Louisiana State guard Flau’jae Johnson was arrested and charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct by the Greenville (S.C). Police Department for his role in a fight after his sister was shoved to the court by South Carolina forward Kamilla Cardoso during a Southeaste­rn Conference tournament game.

Trayron Milton, 24, jumped over the scorer’s table to reach the court. Police say Milton made his way to the court Sunday by pushing down an SEC employee and stepping on her shoulders to get past. Milton briefly made contact with Cardoso before he was led away by police. Milton was released Monday on bonds of $1,087.50 for each charge.

Missouri State fired coach Dana Ford after six seasons without an NCAA tournament appearance. .. Kentucky fired women’s basketball coach Kyra Elzy after consecutiv­e losing seasons that followed the Wildcats’ first Southeaste­rn Conference tournament championsh­ip since 1982. Kentucky finished 11-20 finish, including 4-12 in league play . ... Coastal Carolina hired former Western Carolina coach Justin Gray as its men’s basketball coach, the school said . ... Meredith Maier scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half as Marshall earned its second NCAA tournament berth with a 95-92 win over James Madison in the Sun Belt Conference tournament final.

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will have an MRI of his right elbow after experienci­ng issues in bouncing back following spring training starts. Also, pitcher Luke Weaver was scratched from a scheduled start Tuesday because of a stiff neck . ... Boston Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito will undergo right elbow surgery Tuesday, potentiall­y ending his first season with the team before it even begins. Manager Alex Cora confirmed the developmen­t to reporters Monday . ... Third baseman J.D. Former driver Felipe Massa said he has filed a lawsuit in London against auto racing governing body the FIA, series owner Formula One Management and Bernie Ecclestone to try to claim the 2008 title. Massa added he was also seeking a minimum of $82 million in damages, a document obtained by the AP showed.

The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed depth forward Brendan Lemieux to a $775,000 contract for next season.
