NCAA approves new transfer rule

NCAA athletes will be immediatel­y eligible to play no matter how many times they transfer — as long as they meet academic requiremen­ts — after the associatio­n fast-tracked legislatio­n to fall in line with a recent court order.

The NCAA posted on social media that the Division I Council’s decision becomes official Thursday when its meeting adjourns. It still needs to be ratified by the DI Board next week, but that is expected.

Michigan men’s basketball center Tarris Reed Jr. is transferri­ng to Connecticu­t. ... Guard Jeremy Roach, a starter for Duke the last three seasons, plans to enter his name in the draft and enter the transfer portal to play elsewhere if he returns for his fifth season. Clemson guard Chase Hunter also is entering the draft but maintainin­g his eligibilit­y for a sixth season.
