The West Valley is a place where neighbors help neighbors. When my car battery died in the dark of night, I knocked on Matt Harrigan’s door and he brought out jumper cables to get me running again. Chivalry lives! BTW, Matt is the owner of Timeline Design+build and can help your construction project. Tldesign.net.

Condolences to uber LG volunteer Ginger Taylor Macdonald. Husband John was a much-loved attorney, father and husband.

If you’re like me (or many), the idea of admitting you might be a little hard of hearing is tough. Los Gatos has a terrific audiologist who has turned my inner volume receptors up and can do the same for you. Silicon Valley Hearing, Inc. Dr. Marni Novick, www.siliconvalleyhearing.com.

One of our treasures in the West Valley is the Inn at Saratoga, now part of the Hilton Tapestry Group. With the loss of local watering hole La Hacienda, you may want to check out the new happy hour bar, The Heid. It’s named in honor of local super architect and Los Gatos High School alumnus Warren Heid. He designed many homes and buildings across the Bay Area including Plaza Del Roble, The Inn at Saratoga, and the former San Jose Mercury News building. Happy hour is from 3-5pm daily. www.theinnatsaratoga.com

It pays to send me your news. Tammy Nettler, CPA, announces her new office at Office Evolution. Coincidentally, they are having a ribbon cutting Thursday, Feb. 27, at 5 p.m., and Vice Mayor Barbara Spector will cut the ribbon. Office Evolution has office space and conference rooms for rent at 16185 Los Gatos Blvd. Back to Tammy: She’s a longtime resident of Los Gatos with 30 years practice in the public accounting field. Says Tammy, “I’ve got a great reputation for providing personalized and exceptional service, and am accepting new clients.” tammy@ kettleraccounting.com.

Attendees of Montalvo’s highly successful “One Enchanted Evening” gala got their chance to sing with an opera diva. Renee Fleming led a rousing sing-along to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “I Could Have Danced

All Night.” Attendees Angela Hemingway Charles and husband Glen Charles (creator of TV’S “Cheers” and “Taxi”) were on their feet warbling away. The event raised about $500,000. www.montalvoarts.org

Spring planting is around the corner, and a terrific place to purchase a start to your garden is the annual Santa Clara Master Gardeners plant sale. Get there early, as the lines of people with wagons and carts are daunting. The gardeners start all plants from seed, grown especially for our climate. The program is run through the University of California, and applications are found on their website. Their plant hotline can help solve perplexing garden-related problems. Spring sale: April 18, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Martial Cottle Park, San Jose. www.mgsantaclara.ucanr.edu Please let me know what you like best about Los Gatos, and if you have business or social news about Los Gatos: debby@ debbyrice.com
