The Santa Clara County Fire Department is offering free online disaster preparedne­ss, home safety and community wildfire classes to the Los Gatos and Monte Sereno communitie­s throughout the first half of 2021.

Next up on Tuesday is “Ready Set Go,” where residents can learn how to reduce wildfire risk and better prepare their home, family and neighborho­od. The class is set for 6:30-8 p.m. At the same time on May 4 and 10, residents can log on to meet Santa Clara County Fire chiefs, learn more about wildfire issues and listen to wildfire survivors share their stories of loss and recovery.

A May 6 class is intended to help residents better understand homeowners’ insurance in high fire risk areas. The class is set for 6:30-7:30 p.m. and will be repeated at the same time on May 12. A May 20 class is designed to help identify fall risks and learn simple and effective home modificati­ons to prevent falls. From 1011:15 a.m., residents can get connected with community resources, meet local firefighte­rs and see fire engines and equipment.

At the June 10 class, “Be Ready: Be Prepared!,” residents can learn about Bay Area disaster risks, how to make a plan and prepare for a disaster, how to stock a disaster supply kit and how stay informed during and after a disaster. The class, set for 4-5:30 p.m., will also focus on important communicat­ion systems and how to communicat­e with your support network during a disaster.
