Local restaurants ready to celebrate Mom on Sunday
While we’d like to forget much of 2020, it’s good to remember the occasions we may not have properly celebrated last year. If Mother’s Day was one of them, local restaurants and food purveyors are ready to help make Sunday memorable in a completely different way.
In the Saratoga Village, Chef Daniel Nally of The Basin has two dinner specials for Mom, available to go or to dine in: seared tenderloin with a creamy mushroom sauce, roasted vegetables and pommes mouselline, or seared salmon with buerre blanc sauce, roasted vegetables and crispy fingerling potatoes. To-go orders are for two people. For dining in, reservations are suggested to 408-867-1906.
Andrew Welsh of ASA Los Gatos, at 57 Los Gatossaratoga Road, says they will offer some of their most popular plates from the past, in addition to their regular menu. Choices include Andalusian almond white and red beet gazpachos, presented in the same bowl to showcase the soups’ contrasting colors; grilled, chilled locally grown asparagus with lemon preserves and shaved 24-month Reggiano-parmigiano; tuna tartare with tarragon-chili oil; and wild caught Alaskan halibut. https://www. asarestaurants.com
In downtown Los Gatos, The Bywater will offer a classic array of New Orleans brunch favorites for Mother’s Day, including shrimp and grits, crawfish quiche, pain perdu, chicken fried steak and eggs and crab cake and avocado Benedict. Pass the Sazeracs and the mint juleps. https://www.thebywaterca.com
Manresa Bread is offering
chocolate babka, macarons, cinnamon rolls, quiche Lorraine and potato and herb quiche for preorder at https://www.manresabread.com. In-store pickups are available May 7-9 at all three locations: 276 N. Santa Cruz Ave. in Los Gatos; 195 E. Campbell Ave. in Campbell; and 271 State St. in Los Altos.
Manresa, the restaurant, is set to reopen on May 19 and is no longer serving the Family Meals it offered throughout the pandemic. However, Manresa will offer a Mother’s Day takeout special by preorder at https:// www.exploretock.com/ manresa for pickup on Sunday. For $175 per person, diners can sup on Bryan Flannery’s 60-day dry aged rib eye with beef jus, along with a half Maine lobster with caramelized tail and lobster bisque emulsified with foie gras and Armagnac, served with claw and knuckle meat. The second choice is Jidori hen egg omelet with grilled ramps and morel mushrooms with avocado and dijonnaise, along with cauliflower and white asparagus soup. Both meals come with side dish options
and dessert.
Eleven College Ave will offer a three-course prefix to their normal a la carte offerings. Chef Karimi expects the Mother’s Day special to include tuna tartare, a steak and scallop dish, and a stonefruit tart. The rest of the regular dinner menu is available as well. https:// elevencollegeave.com
Sidecar Modern Tavern will offer an updated brunch menu and four special items, including caviar service, complimentary champagne just for Mom, Dungeness crab benedict and salmon benedict. Their hollandaise is highly recommended, as are reservations to https://www.sidecar7.com.
To help fete Mom at home, Shop Locale, the gourmet curated grocery delivery service created by Los Gatans Chris Clark and Jonathan Friedland, will be offering cinnamon rolls and macarons from Manresa Bread, special truffles from Mutari in Santa Cruz, and a peony and rose bouquet from Bunches flowers.
