Springtime workshops
The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority is exploring flora and fauna this month in some online workshops.
“Animal Families,” a familyfriendly program about some types of wildlife families, is set for today noon-1 p.m. The workshop will cover different parenting styles — species that care for their young vs. those that have more of a hands-off parenting style — and family groupings — animals that live in big colonies vs. those who prefer to stay solo.

The next day, Saturday, Phoenix of Phoenix’s Curiosity Cabinet will talk about local nocturnal animals from 10:30-11:30 a.m. This program will be hosted live on the Open Space Authority’s Facebook page, although a Facebook account is not required to access it. To view the workshop, visit www.facebook.com/openspaceauthority/videos.
Later in the month, on May 23, Open Space Authority educational aide Kat will talk about “The Late Bloomers of the Santa Clara Valley.” The workshop will explore flowers and plants that wait to bloom until warmer weather — mariposa lilies, Venus thistles, tarweeds and buckeye among them. Kat will discuss identification, life history and the plants’ relationships with the landscape.
The workshop is set for 10-11 a.m. Register at Eventbrite.com to receive the Zoom link.
