Gabrielle Whelan chosen as new town attorney

Gabrielle Whelan has been named the new Los Gatos town attorney .

Whelan has been a practicing attorney for more than 25 years at both inhouse and private firms. She previously served as the assistant city attorney for the City of San Mateo.

“On behalf of the council, we are excited to welcome Ms. Whelan to Los Gatos,” Mayor Rob Rennie said in a statement. “She brings excellent expertise in municipal legal matters, particular­ly regarding land use, housing, environmen­tal review, employment, elections and other technical areas.”

Whelan will replace former town attorney Rob Shultz, who retired in December and is serving as the interim town attorney. Schultz is the fifth executive employee to depart Los Gatos in the past five months.

Town Council was set to vote on approving Whelan's employment agreement on April 5. She's slated to start May 16.

“I look forward to joining the team in Los Gatos and providing legal advice and services to the town council and staff. This is a wonderful opportunit­y,” Whelan said in a stsatement.
