- BY KIERAN NICHOLSON THE DENVER POST

The most recent assessment of destroyed or damaged structures in the Cameron Peak fire brings the total to more than 90 with three primar y residences being destroyed.

The latest numbers from the sheriff’s office, compiled by the Larimer County Damage Assessment Team since the last report on Sept. 12, are 41 structures damaged or destroyed, said David Moore, a sheriff’s spokesman. Thirtynine structures were destroyed and two were damaged. Six residential structures were destroyed, none of them primar y residences.

Most of the structures impacted by the fire are various types of non-residential buildings, including barns, sheds and outhouses, Moore said.

The LCSO is working with the fire incident management team on plans to allow owners with damage or loss to return to their properties, Moore said in a Tuesday evening update.

The Cameron Peak fire, the third largest wildfire in Colorado history, has burned 125,006 acres, about 195 square miles, since Aug. 13 and is 21% contained. More than 850 firefighters are working on the fire.

The Northwest Incident Management Team 6 took authority over the fire Tuesday morning, replacing the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 3.

Operations trainee for Team 6 John Nor ton-jensen said in a Facebook update Tuesday evening that crews worked along the north and south sides of the burn area during the day.

The interior pocket of green between the two thumbs on the north side put up a lot of smoke, he said.

Helicopters dropped retardant along the north side of the burn and on the south side between Comanche Reser voir and Browns Lake.

Crews also worked to build more contingency lines, making progress on the east side of the two “fingers” on the north side.

Norton-jensen said people can expect to see helicopters working the fire again on Wednesday.
