Those who know say no to wolves
Read the Thursday guest opinion on wolves by a fella with a lot of education. Let’s just look at his manipulation of facts.
Don’t know anyone who said the wolf would eliminate its prey, just decimate it.
He gives us elk population estimates and har vest success rates for the entire states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Wolves were introduced into the Yellowstone area, not the entire state. National forest ser vice greater Yellowstone elk population graphs show the elk population in 1994 at approximately 19,000 elk. In 2019 the same graph shows the same area having a population of 6,000. A 69% drop in population.
Mr. Bishop quotes a person from a ver y biased group as stating that moose are not in the diet of wolves. Really! I wouldn’t let that statement be attributed to my name either. Google “wolves attacking moose” and watch a few of the filmed attacks on moose calves and adults.
The guest columnist states that they could not change the minds of game biologists that know how this reintroduction will work. So his solution is to go to the voters, the vast majority of whom have no clue what the long term effect of this reintroduction is.
He then states the CSU Department of Human Dimensions found the vast majority of people and ranchers want wolves. First of all this is not a poll, this is a group of pro-wolf people creating facts. I have yet to meet one bona fide rancher in Colorado that thinks this is a good idea.
Most of the people I know actually put some thought into their votes. I do know and talk to the game wardens, and state game biologist. All of these people are against reintroduction of the wolf. But Mr. Bishop takes great pride in bragging that the people without any knowledge far outnumber the ones that do have some knowledge on this subject. Vote no on proposition 114.
