Coroner IDS man killed in crash on Sunday
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified 81-year-old George Rigby as the man killed in a bicycle versus vehicle crash in Fort Collins Sunday.
Rigby, a Fort Collins resident, died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries, according to a release from the office.
A previous media release from Fort Collins Police stated the crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday. Officers arrived on scene to find Rigby with serious injuries; he was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but later died.
Investigation into the incident found that the crash happened between Rigby and a 2006 Honda CR-V driven by an adult man. The Honda was traveling northbound on Lemay Avenue when the cyclist tried to cross from Centennial Road. With a stop sign on Centennial Road, it was determined that the Honda driver had the right of way.
Rigby was the first of two people killed in a bicycle and vehicle crash in Fort Collins in as many days, with a crash late Monday morning killing another adult man riding a bike.
At approximately 11:39 a.m. Monday, Poudre Fire Authority firefighters responded to a crash involving a silver 2014 Toyota Sienna and a bicyclist at the intersection of East Harmony Road and Mcmurry Avenue, according to a previous release from the Fort Collins Police Services.
Firefighters began to render aid to the cyclist, an adult man, who had suffered serious injuries; the cyclist ultimately died as a result of the crash, the release added. The Larimer County Coroner will release the victim’s identity as well as the cause and manner of death at a later time.
At this point in the investigation, the release added, investigators believe the Toyota Sienna was stopped at a red light at the in
tersection of Harmony and Mcmurry.
When the light turned green it proceeded forward when the cyclist, who was traveling southbound on Mcmurry and crossing Harmony, collided with the vehicle.
Multiple witnesses confirmed the Toyota had the green light and right of way, the release added.
