While you and the kids may have envisioned a smooth transition back to school, there’s a pretty good chance that there were a few days of chaos. Even if you don’t have kids heading back to school, you still may have run into some surprise delays on the roads due to back-to-school traffic.
No matter your situation, put the first week of school in the rearview mirror by partaking in some fun adventures with family, friends or just by yourself.
Check out these 19 events taking place the week of Aug. 19-25 in Greeley, Fort Collins, Loveland and around northern Colorado.
1. The 24th annual Lafayette Peach Festival is set to take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Old Town Lafayette on Public Road between Kimbark and Cleveland. The free event will feature peach pies and cobbler, craft vendors, antique dealers, activities for the kids, food trucks, more than 30,000 pounds of Palisade peaches and more. All ages are welcome. 2. Severance Days kicks off at 10 a.m. with a parade followed by a car show, vendor booths, food trucks, a beer garden, kids activities and much more for all ages. Events and activities will take place at Severance High School, Community Park and Severance Community Ball Fields. Get out and about this week at a variety of different events and activities like the Loveland Corn Roast Festival, Severance Days, Bootleggin’ Days and more in and around Noco.
3. The 11th annual Front Range Wine Festival is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Main Park, 300 Locust St., Windsor. The festival will showcase more than 30 different Colorado wineries, artisans, food vendors, live music, retail items and more for adults 21 and older. Tickets include general admission, a wine glass, a wine tote and unlimited tastings. Pets are not allowed. Tickets are $43.99 per person online and $50 per person at the gate. 4. Meet some local first responders by swinging over to the Evans Fire Protection District Station 2’s open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2100 37th St. All ages are welcome to attend the open house and check out the fire trucks, enjoy a hot dog lunch, watch fire safety demonstrations and more. 5. Physics & Foam: Are We Alone in the Universe will take place at 2 p.m. at Loveland Aleworks, 118 W. Fourth St., Loveland. Dr. Charles Kuehn from the University of Northern Colorado’s Department of Physics and Astronomy will talk about what is needed for a planet to support life, the odds of aliens existing and how we can find them. 6. The Fort Collins Peach Festival kicks off at 11 a.m. at Civic Center Park, 201 Laporte Ave. The free event will feature live music, local beer and food vendors, retail and craft vendors and more. The market will feature more than 18 vendors showcasing everything from fresh homemade pies to jewelry. All ages are welcome to attend, and there is no cost to visit the market. 8. Enjoy some beer and bites from noon to 8 p.m. at Crabtree Brewing, 2961 219th St., Greeley. Cousins Maine Lobster food truck will be on-site selling a variety of goodies including lobster rolls, chowder, quesadillas and tacos and more. 9. The Shaw Classic Strongman Competition will take place at 1 p.m. at the Budweiser Events Center, 5290 Arena Circle, Loveland, with the world’s strongest athletes competing in a variety of challenges, including truck pulling, car lifting, tire deadlifts and more. 10. Fort Collins-based improv troupe Scam Likely are scheduled to take the stage at 7:30 p.m. at The Comedy Fort, 167 N. College Ave., Fort Collins.
