Skip Will’s bad advice about future energy plans

-

George Will wants to preserve the status quo in his commentary of Nov. 16. He quotes Benjamin Zycher, of the American Enterprise Institute, a right wing “think tank” whose agenda is to protect the corporate polluters at all costs. Mr. Will did not give one mention as to how our grandchildren, and so many generations not yet born, will have to deal with the harsh effects of continuing to burn fossil fuels. According to Mr. Will, Mr. Zycher contends that only .8% of the world’s energy is supplied by wind, but according to the Global Electricity Preview in 2022, wind and solar combined generated more than 10% of electricity globally in 2021. A preponderance of this electricity production is from wind.

Our own states are now setting examples of how much wind power can help us. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that in 2022, renewable resources provided 47% of our neighbor Kansas’s in-state electricity net generation, almost all of it, about 99% is from wind power.

Other countries are having much success with wind power. According to a recent BBC report, Great Britain is getting 26.8 percent of their energy from wind power alone.

Mr. Will complains about high inflation and interest rates but fails to mention that inflation is a worldwide problem, and over the past year it has come down considerably in the U.S. Gas prices are now around $3 at the pump.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has been hiking interest rates to recent highs; he was appointed to be chairman of the Federal Reserve by then President Trump.

Mr. Will and Mr. Zycher are both off track when it comes to future energy plans and the terrible condition of our offspring’s world if we follow their bad advice.
