Panthers, Lady Panthers fall in tough road battles against Sheridan

SHERIDAN—For their first road test of the 2020-2021 basketball season, the Magnet Cove Panthers and Lady Panthers suffered tough losses to Sheridan last Friday in senior high hoops.

SENIOR HIGH GIRLS HOOPS

Lady Panthers 37, Sheridan 57

In senior high girls action, the Lady Panthers battled hard to stay close early, but the Lady Yellowjack­ets secured a 5737 victory. The Lady Panthers only had a seven-point deficit to Sheridan at the end of the first quarter, 14-7. In the second, Sheridan outscored the Lady Panthers 18-9. At the break, Magnet Cove trailed the Lady Yellowjack­ets, 32-16. In the second half, Sheridan poured 25 points in the basket, but Magnet Cove posted 21 points—to outscore Lady Yellowjack­ets 13-11 in the third quarter. But, Sheridan would prevail for the 20-point victory. For the game, Lady Panthers’ Karsen Davis led scoring with 16 points and nailed four trifectas (3-pointers) to display her pure shooting range in double-figures. Zoee Rednour added eight points, Kassidy Gray finished with seven points with a trey from behind the arc. Jamie Kelly and Brianna Ramthum each chipped in three points apiece.

SENIOR HIGH BOYS HOOPS Panthers 42, Sheridan 63

In the nightcap Friday, the senior high boys match-up showcased a tough and competitiv­e bout. The Panthers were able to post in double-digits in the first and second quarters, but the Yellowjack­ets fed off the home-court advantage to spark Sheridan in victory. Sheridan jumped out to a 23-10 first period lead to open the game with the early advantage over Magnet Cove. At the break, Sheridan led the Panthers 40-22. In the third quarter, the Panthers outscored Sheridan 14-10, but the Yellowjack­ets led Magnet Cove 50-36 after three quarters of action. In the fourth, the Panthers had a 14-point deficit and were held to six points scored. Sheridan sparked for 13 points scored in the final quarter to surge to the 21-point victory. For the game, Panthers’ Levi Horton led scoring with 14 points and Owen Tillery poured 10 points for the only two players to post in double-figures for Magnet Cove. Evan Ashcraft followed with nine points. Tillery also drilled two trifectas (3-pointers) and Ashcraft hit one trey from behind the arc for long distance shooting.
