Jr. Panthers, Jr. Lady Panthers shine in dominant victories over Mt. Ida
MAGNET COVE — For an exciting display of junior high basketball contests last Thursday, the Magnet Cove Jr. Panthers and the Jr. Lady Panthers swept wins at home against Mt. Ida at Magnet Cove High School Gymnasium.
JUNIOR HIGH GIRLS HOOPS Jr. Lady Panthers 48, Mt. Ida 18
To start out the night’s first battle, the Jr. Lady Panthers pulled out a 48-18 victory against the Jr. Lady Lions. Magnet Cove sparked to a 2614 first half advantage over Mt. Ida. In the second half, the Jr. Lady Panthers outscored Mt. Ida 22-4. Defensively, the Jr. Lady Panthers held Mt. Ida only four totaled points scored which came in the third quarter. Mt. Ida was scoreless the entire four period.
For the game, Jr. Lady Panthers Marleigh McCutcheon and Neaira Walls led scoring with 10 points apiece for double-figures. Kylie Covey added nine points, Kynsli Brashears posted eight points, Haddie Hawthorn scored five points, Hadley Herrington finished with four points, Ella Williamson and Natalie Hardwick each chipped in a point apiece from the charity stripe.
JUNIOR HIGH BOYS HOOPS
Jr. Panthers 58, Mt. Ida 24
In junior high boys action, the Jr. Panthers showed no mercy on the hardwood and put together another overall dominating performance in a 34-point victory against Mt. Ida. Magnet Cove took a 22-6 first quarter lead to spark an early advantage to end the opening period action. In the second, the Jr. Panthers dropped a productive 15 points through the basket for a double-digit scoring period. The Jr. Lions were held to five points scored in the second. At the break, Magnet Cove maintained a commanding 37-11 lead over Mt. Ida. In the second half, the Jr. Panthers went into cruise control and outscored Mt. Ida 19-13 for third and fourth quarter scoring combine.
For the game, Jr. Panthers’ Bo Batchelor led the scoring department with 15 points and drilled one trifecta (3-pointer) as the only player in double-figures. Payton Plyer added seven points, Hayden Browning and Wilson Ballentine each contributed six points apiece. Ballentine also drained two trey’s from behind the arc. Bronson Coolis had five points with a trey, Luke Harper and Hunter Browning each scored four points apiece, and Justice Traylor added three points. Cade Davis, Zack Dickinson, AaRon Hollard and Carter Vann each finished with two points apiece.
