Jewelry creators to host event, new store in the works

- By Sarah Perry Editor

Rob and Cathy Feather, of CrossFeather Designs, have been selling their jewelry creations for years at various events and other shops. They are currently in the process of getting their own shop ready for business.

Cathy Feather said they will be hosting a pop up shop for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. All items will be less than $ 25. Along with the jewelry they will also be selling several crosses.

“It all starts with the cross,” Cathy said.

The shop will be open Friday from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. and Saturday from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. at 212 S. Main St. in downtown Malvern.

Their pieces will also be available at the Kiwanis Holiday Market scheduled for Dec. 5 at the Malvern Boys & Girls Club.

At the beginning of the year the couple was scheduled to present at 10 different events and festivals but because of the COVID- 19 those events were canceled.

Cathy Feather who is a native of Malvern said the crystal and copper jewelry incorporates local Arkansas quartz in the hand forged pieces.

The colors of the pieces are achieved by combining fire with water from Arkansas Natural Springs, crushed local quartz and diamond dust from the Crater of Diamonds. The mineral content in the spring water from different locations throughout Arkansas affects the final color achieved on each piece of copper jewelry.

She also mentioned that copper is antimicrobial and has been believed to have healing abilities by many cultures.

Rob Feather attended jewelry and metalworking school in Colorado and enjoys creating with copper and quartz and making each piece by hand to best highlight the shape of the crystal. Rob Feather also enjoys sketching and painting in multiple mediums along with murals and specialty finishes such as woodgraining.

The Feathers are also licensed construction contractors with more than 20 years experience and often specialize in interior decorating projects. Cathy Feather is a color specialist and said she enjoys creating faux finishes, installing wallpaper and helping people find color that makes them feel good.

The Feathers hopes to open their new shop after the first of the year.

Cathy Feather feels the spring will be a great time for downtown Malvern.

Cathy Feather can be reached at 501- 701- 7502.
