United Way of Ouachita sets Super Tax Saturday

United Way of the Ouachitas will host its second annual Super Tax Saturday virtually on February 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Super Tax Saturday is United Way’s kick- off event to the VITA tax preparation season. In partnership with Entergy Arkansas and Prosperity Now, United Way of the Ouachitas’ Virtual VITA site allows participants to bring their documents to the Financial Empowerment Center and wait in their vehicles until their tax return has been completed.

The process will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes depending on the difficulty of the return. The process is described below:

1. Arrive at the United Way of the Ouachitas located at 233 Hobson Avenue between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and noon-February 6. Individuals may also call 501-623-2505 to set up an appointment to file their returns on an alternative date. The same measures of safety will be followed for future virtual tax preparation services.

2. Upon arrival, staff will greet people at their vehicle and provide their with an intake form to complete. All filers must bring a photo ID, Social Security card, and all necessary tax documents for each individual on the return. Staff ask that individuals wait in their vehicle their taxes are being completed.

3. Once the return has been completed, staff will review the completed return with the individuals in their vehicles. If filing a joint return, a spouse must be present to sign off on the joint return. Upon approval, staff will e-file the federal and state returns and will provide individuals with a copy to take home.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free tax help to people who generally make $55,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. United Way will prepare taxes for individuals through April 15, 2021.
