UAPB baseball falls to Jackson St. in game three finale

After falling behind early, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team attempted a late comeback but lost 17-11 at Jackson St. Sunday evening at Braddy Field.

The Tigers jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but the Golden Lions battled back in a gusty of offensive power and speed.

UAPB opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when junior Justin Rieschick reached base on a walk, followed by a single right field by Dante Leach. Sophomore Braelin Hence, Declaudio Irvin , and senior Nick Kreutzer would come up big with three straight singles to cut into Jackson St. lead (8-3).

The Tigers would respond with a quick run immediatel­y after the Golden Lions rally and extended their lead by scoring eight runs over the third and fifth innings.

After adding two runs in the top of the sixth inning, UAPB wouldn’t go away quietly in the eighth inning. Hence led the inning with a single right field, followed by a double to left field by Irvin scoring Hence. Junior Kacy Higgins would add on with a single up the middle, scoring Irvin to cut the lead to six (1711). The rally was halted as the Tigers pulled out to clinch game-three.

Irvin led the Golden Lions at the plate, going 2-for-5, two RBI’s, followed by Hence going 2-for-4, RBI, and Martin going 2-for-5, RBI.

UAPB returns to action on Friday against Alabama A&M for a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 5, at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
