ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH MID-SOUTH:
Make-A-Wish Mid-South covers all of Arkansas, parts of Mississippi, and Memphis. Since being founded in 1986, Make-A-Wish MidSouth has granted more than 5,500 wishes.
Make-A-Wish has a general four-step process by which a child is referred, qualified and granted a wish. Step one is the referral.
Make-A-Wish relies on medical professionals, parents, relatives, and children themselves for referrals. Children between the ages of 2 and a half and 18 who have not had a wish granted by another organization are eligible.
Step two is medical eligibility. The child’s acting physician determines the medical eligibility of the child. The child must have a life-threatening medical condition, defined as progressive, degenerative, or malignant.
Step three is finding the child’s one true wish: MakeA-Wish sends a wish team consisting of two volunteer Wish Granters to meet with the wish child and his/her family to identify the child’s wish. Step four is creating joy. The Wish Granters work hard to create the most magical wish experience that enriches the lives of not only the child, but everyone involved.
