Glen Rose sweeps road wins against Bismarck in rivalry hoops at Holt Gymnasium

Riggan, Youngman, Carter lead Glen Rose hoopsters in rivalry wins

BISMARCK — To create some noise for Tuesday night rivalry showdowns on the hardwood at the famous Holt Gymnasium, the visiting Glen Rose Beavers and Lady Beavers rolled into Lion Country and came away with a clean sweep of wins against in-county neighbors Bismarck in their first of two game conference series meeting for senior and junior high basketball competitio­n.

The junior high girls tipped off the night for the first rivalry showdown.

The contest got everyone on their heel toes as the Glen Rose Jr. Lady Beavers escaped victorious with a one-point win over the Bismarck Jr. Lady Lions, 17-16. For the game, Jr. Lady Beavers’ Madi Hutcheson, Aubrey Pennington and Emma Lewallen led the way with three points apiece. For Bismarck, Jr. Lady Lions’ Avery Efird and Zoe Simmons led the scoring department with five points apiece.

In the senior high girls matchup, the Lady Beavers and the Lady Lions also took their contest for a whirlwind extravagan­za bout that went down to the wire. As both lady hoop teams competed fiercely for pride, the Lady Beavers’ key execution down the stretch secured them as the victors of their conference encounter for the first meeting of their league series. As a result, the Lady Beavers edged off the Lady Lions 25-22. For the game, Lady Beavers’ Sydney Riggan paced Glen Rose as their leading scorer with eight points. Makayla Stevens and Ashlee Stafford followed with six points apiece. For Bismarck, Lady Lion hoopster Hannah Collie led all scorers with 15 points as the only player to post in double-figures. For the rivalry night’s featured nightcap was the senior high boys match- up. For a physical and aggressive showcase, the Beavers prevailed in a convincing win against the Lions 53-33. The Beavers were led by big man Brayden Youngman with 19 points and teammate Cohen Carter dropped 14 points for double-figures.

For the Lions, Ian Smith led the roaring Lion core with 12 points and Beau Wesson added 11 points for double-figures. Blake Smith chipped in eight points and Wayne Porterfiel­d contribute­d two points.

Tonight, Glen Rose is scheduled for conference play hosting Harmony Grove at the Glen Rose Sports Arena as Bismarck travels to Prescott for their league series match-up at the Prescott Sports Arena.
