Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield encourages Walk at Lunch Day

- Special to the MDR

Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic say individuals should take about 30 minutes to eat lunch each day, but that doesn’t mean people have to cut their lunch hour short.

“We are all very busy, and that extra 30 minutes is a perfect opportunity to do something that could improve your life,” said Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Wellness Program Manager Kristen Lippencott. “Exercise is good for your physical, mental and emotional health. It’s the perfect way to clear your mind and hit refresh for a more productive afternoon.”

And a half hour of moderate physical activity, five days a week, is exactly the amount of exercise the Centers for Disease Control recommends – even if it’s just a walk outside the office. Today is National Walk at Lunch Day. Arkansas Blue Cross encourages everyone to make good use of an extra 30 minutes and go for a stroll.

National Walk at Lunch Day is celebrated each year on the last Wednesday in April to help improve the health of Americans in communities nationwide.
