Batchelor leads Poyen in 1-0 victory against Fulmer’s stout 12k’s performance in rivalry showcase
POYEN — For a Friday showcase of a softball rivalry showdown of Tribe pride on the diamond, the Poyen Lady Indians welcomed the Ouachita Lady Warriors for a competitive non-conference matchup at the Poyen Sports Complex. The match-up presented a defensive battle between two quality area softball programs colliding with a dynamic pitching duel in the pitcher’s circle. For seven intense innings, the productive pitching performance of collegiate standout Kodee Batchelor led the Lady Indians in a 1-0 victory against the Lady Warriors. Batchelor struck out three batters, giving up two hits, no runs and threw 52 strikes across the plate from her seven innings of work in the circle.
The freshman Lady Warrior standout Maddie Fulmer had the blaze flaming in the pitcher’s circle and recorded 12 strikeouts and gave up two hits, one earned run while throwing more than 70 strikes across the plate for a productive performance of six innings of work.
Leading Poyen’s offensive execution in the frame was Batchelor and Josey Austin each powering a hit apiece while Austin drove in the game’s lone run of the outing. Rachel Ellison and K. Morrison each had a stolen base to ignite Poyen’s base running.
Ouachita’s freshman Sophie Davis and sophomore Rayna LaSalle both collected a hit. Lasalle also tallied the Lady Warriors only stolen base to spark some productive offense during the match-up.
