Lady Lions prevail against Ashdown 3-1

BISMARCK — The Bismarck Lady Lions outplayed their visiting opponent Wednesday in conference softball competitio­n in Bismarck. The Lady Lions rallied together as a collective unit and defeated the Ashdown Lady Panthers 3-1 in seven intense innings. Defensivel­y, the Lady Lions held Ashdown scoreless in six innings (first, second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh) which secured their victory. Ashdown managed their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth to trail Bismarck 2-1. In the top of the sixth, the Lady Lions extended their lead to score their third runs of the outing that held through for the two-run victory.

Offensivel­y, the Lady Lions routed three runs on five hits. Cada Collins (double) led the offensive execution in the frame with two hits while Avery Efird, Ellie Norris each tallied a hit apiece. Hannah Collie ignited the highlight hit of the contest and homered against the Lady Panthers. Collie, Collins, and Norris each drove in a run for an RBI. Sparking for scoring opportunit­ies were Efird, Collie and Collins each routing around the bases to score a run apiece.

Leading the defense in the pitcher’s circle was Audrey Kizziar, who earned the victory. Kizziar pitched a complete game, allowed four hits, one earned run, struck out one batter and threw 49 strikes from her work in the circle.

Ashdown sparked for one run on four hits with K. Forbes powering a home run that gave the Lady Panthers it’s only run of the contest.

Today, the Lady Lions continue their momentum on the diamond and travel to Fouke for another Lady Panther duel in conference softball competitio­n.
