Lady Indians make plays, edged by Horatio at district tournament

HORATIO — The Poyen Lady Indians had a tough tournament match-up against the host district tournament team Horatio Tuesday in Horatio. The Lady Indians made productive plays but fell short to the Lady Lions 9-3 in seven innings of softball competitio­n.

Poyen tallied three runs on four hits while the Lady Lions sparked with nine runs on 12 hits to secure victory.

Leading the Lady Indians offensive execution was Emma Wise, Kyndal Morrison (double), Josey

Austin and Sara Hammond each connected in the frame with a hit apiece. Olivia Spurlin, Morrison and Hammond all drove in a run for an RBI. Austin, Morrison, Ellie Sutterfiel­d and Hammond each sparked by scoring a run.

Leading the defensive execution in the pitcher’s circle was Poyen senior ace pitcher Kodee Batchelor. In seven innings, Batchelor pitched a complete game, struck out two batters, allowed 12 hits, nine runs but brought the heat and threw 86 strikes across the plate while facing 40 batters from her work in the circle.
