National Day of Prayer event set for May 5
Pastor Jimmy Bobo, with the Malvern First Assembly of God Church in Malvern, announced that there will be a special public gathering on the lawn of the Hot Spring County Courthouse at noon Thursday, May 5, in joyful celebration of the National Day of Prayer.
The National Day of Prayer was officially designated by the United States Congress in 1952 and is held annually on the first Thursday in May, “on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.”
The public is invited to join Bobo and others on the Courthouse Lawn that Thursday to support the power of prayer and hear numerous community leaders lend their voice to celebrating this national observance.
“Here in Malvern, we’re observing the National Day of Prayer at the Courthouse, on the Courthouse Lawn at twelve,” Bobo said. “It’ll be several different people praying over several different areas of concern for our nation and our world, and we do this every year.”
Bobo said the Mayor and other community and religious leaders will be there to pray with the public and acknowledge the significance of the day. The gathering highlights the importance of prayer to many residents of Hot Spring County and is open to all denominations or anyone who wants to publicly observe the occasion.
