Leola I. Hendel, 93, of Malvern, formerly of St. Louis, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, at her daughter’s home. She was born November 20, 1928, in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late Albert and Florence (Scholz) Grotke. Her father was a Lutheran minister, who instilled in her a deep and lifelong Christian faith. She took special pride in her children, grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren. She loved to fish for trout in Missouri. She worked as an insurance claims adjuster for St. Paul and CNA. Following retirement, she volunteere­d with hospice visiting patients who were home or nursing-home bound.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Florence (Scholz) Grotke, and husband, John F. Hendel of 67 years.

Survivors include her son, Craig Hendel (wife, Nancy) of Appleton, WI; daughter, Pam Barrett (husband, Robert) of Malvern; four grandchild­ren, Dara Casey (husband, Keith), Benjamin Hendel, Nicholas Hendel and Caroline Hendel and three great grandchild­ren, Star Casey, Jessie Casey and Kail Casey.

Services will be held at a later date.
