Whiskey Ridge races all wrapped up
Whiskey Ridge Ranch right outside of Bismarck hosted the best kept secret in Hot Spring County last week—the 2022 Racing on the Ridge Chuckwagon Races.
The event is in its fifth season and was held along with other exciting activities during a week-long event May 24-30 at the cattle ranch/ equine center located at 26260 Hwy 84 in Malvern.
The two-day chuckwagon races held May 27 and 28 were accompanied by days of competitions, exhibitions, classes, vendors, live music and special prayers during the Memorial Day holiday weekend to honor the American military men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice serving this country.
Individual and team competitions for roping, racing, and riding horses and mules took place in between the great live music, food and product vendors, and special classes and exhibitions. The chuckwagon races were highlighted by the Wtb—world’s Toughest Bullfighters event Saturday evening.
Tuesday, May 24 kicked off with barrel races and exhibitions. Wednesday brought team roping events and a guided trail ride. Thursday saw the Possum Hollow Poker Run Trail Ride Catfish Lunch, benefitting the Southwest Rural Fire Dept., followed by more barrel races and Casey Donahew in concert.
Friday’s festivities included trail rides, Cowboy College, team sorting challenges, a “Cornhole Competition”, saddle & ranch bronc riding, and live music from the Tyler Kinch Band.
Saturday’s events included a True Grit Working Cattle Dog demonstration, the first leg of the Chuckwagon Races, a bull riding & freestyle bull fighting event, and live music by the Mike Johnson Band.
Sunday saw worship with the Crossroads Cowboy Church, the second leg of the Chuckwagon Races, an Awards Ceremony that evening, and live music by Unsigned capping off the night.
