Building a new culture
Lady Leopards focus on a new perspective while attending ‘Our Culture’ basketball camp
MALVERN — The hometown Malvern Lady Leopards senior and junior high hoopsters are taking a different approach to refocus and build back a productive basketball program in their offseason for the 2022-2023 season. Last week, the Lady Leopards attended a two-day team camp hosted at the Leopard Center. Along with perfecting their abilities of fundamental skills, the Lady Leopards went into a different direction to help create a unique culture to build some excitement back into their basketball program.
While learning to maintain a productive approach of team unity, the Lady Leopards participated in an “Our Culture” basketball camp that strives to build a championship culture—teach players how to get one percent better daily and equip players to lead their team.
“Our Culture” camp directors JJ Davis, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Neosho County Community College and Kenny Eddy, Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Pratt Community College conducted the two-day camp for three hours of court time that consisted of leadership and communication training and life skills training. During several sessions, the Lady Leopard hoopsters had the opportunity to enjoy important basic skills of the hardwood and understand why its purpose. Camp directors took the time to illustrate methods of development in dribbling motions, making unorthodox moves around defenders to help propel their execution.
The camp also put strong emphasis on maintaining positive attitudes and uplifting each other for encouragement. These aspects help build a productive culture and keep a team motivated to overcome adversity moments and situations.

The team has worked out in shirts displaying a giant size question mark—[?] to illustrate who they are as student-athletes representing the athletic program to be
disciplined, determined and dedicated.
Back in April, both Malvern senior and junior high hoopsters attended the RNB’S basketball camp conducted by former hometown Malvern Lady Leopard great Raven Northcross-baker.
The Lady Leopards will be looking towards participating at team camps and continuing workouts in the gym during their offseason training in the summer.
