Rorie’s 17 with Smith’s double-double leads Lions past Glen Rose in rivalry first round hoops at district

FOUKE — In the opening round of the 3A-7 Boys District Basketball Tournament Monday in Fouke, an in-county rivalry showcase match-up featured the No. 7 seed Bismarck Lions defeating No. 6 seed Glen Rose Beavers 56-28.

The loss ended the season of hoops for the Beavers at 9-11 overall and a sixth place finish in league play.

The Lions and the Beavers had a low scoring affair in the first quar- t e r with Bismarck taking a slight 5-4 lead over rival Glen Rose.

In the second quarter, the Lions outscored Glen Rose 19-6. While the Beavers were held in single digit scoring, the Lions took a 24-10 lead into the locker room at the break for the halftime score.

The Beavers aimed to melt a come back from their 14-point deficit at halftime, but fell short to account nine points apiece scored in the third and fourth quarters. The Lions combined for 32 points scored in the second half to outscore Glen Rose netting 18 for the final 16 minutes of game action.

The Lions’ victory advance them to the quarterfin­al round. For the game, Lions’ Kalem Rorie led the surge with 17 points and two rebounds, while Ian Smith finished with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds to post in double-figures. Nick Tucker added eight points with four rebounds, Carson House scored six points with three rebounds and dished out two assists. Riley Tuttle chipped in three points and three rebounds with two assists— Dalton Daniels also contribute­d three points with a rebound, Eli Vanwie had a three piece with six rebounds and two assists—joseph Porter had two points and Lucas Chapman finished with two points and snatched six rebounds. For their third meeting of the season, the Lions go 2-1 in wins over Glen Rose this 2022-23 basketball season.

The Lions move on to the next round for the quarterfin­als in district tournament hoops for a match-up against Centerpoin­t in Fouke.
