Whiskey Ridge Ranch to host trail ride, camping & concert event on March 18

- By Virginia Pitts Staff Writer

If last year’s Chuckwagon Races are any indication, you don’t want to miss this year’s event.

The Whiskey Ridge Ranch will host its first “Trail Ride, Camping & Concert” event of 2023 on Saturday, March 18, where participating chuckwagon teams will get weighed and measured in anticipation of the races, which take place May 23-28.

Hot Spring County Sheriff Scott Finkbeiner and deputies with his office will be on hand for a fundraiser luncheon of Mexican cuisine to raise money for the HSCSO.

The event will be held at the cattle and equine ranch facility located at 26260 Hwy. 84, near the Interstate-30 exit at Social Hill.

The event is in preparation of the 6th Annual “Racing on the Ridge” 2023 ACWRA Chuckwagon Races, set for May 23-28. Teams planning to join in the May race will be on hand that day for the weigh-in and measurements needed to ensure participation.

Finkbeiner and company will be on hand for a tasty fundraiser featuring “Authentic Tacos & Quesadillas” that will be served from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., courtesy of the Whiskey Rodeo Arena. Proceeds from this portion of the event will directly benefit the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office.

Veterinarian Judith Cychol will be there to offer vaccines that ward against Eastern and Western Equine Encephalomyelitis, tetanus, rabies, influenza, West Nile Virus, and Strangles, which is a contagious equine disease of the upper respiratory tract.

Cychol will also be offering the Coggins test, which is an equine blood test to determine if the animal is a carrier of Equine Infectious Anemia. People will need a current

negative Coggins result to get their animals in the gate, or they can arrange with Cychol to get one set up or reach out for more clarification by calling 501-680-6165.

The medical tests and vaccines will be conducted from 10 a.m. until noon, and weigh-in for the Chuckwagon Race teams will be from 1-4 p.m. But perhaps the most fun that Saturday will be the group Trail Ride at 3 p.m., followed by the Outrider Clinic from 4-6 p.m. and live music by Medea Mackey Midwestern Playboys, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $10 per person, and “Cowboy Camping” is included in admission. ACRWA members will have no charge for camping, the trail ride or concert.

RV Hookup’s will be available for $25, and stalls for $15. The vaccines and testing prices are as follows: $30 for Coggins, $75 for EE/ We/tetanus/wnv/rabies, and $40 for Strangles. Please call Cychol at the number listed above if you’d like to bring your animal in for the testing or vaccines, so she can be sure to bring enough medication.
