Alexandria, Virginia – In the wake of the recent tragic deaths in Texarkana, Texas, resulting from synthetic marijuana overdoses, Smart Approaches to Marijuana Action (SAM Action) urges Governor Sanders and the Arkansas Legislature to act swiftly to ban Delta-8 THC and other synthetic marijuana substances in the state of Arkansas.

Two individuals lost their lives, and at least five more have suffered from overdoses, after using a dangerous batch of synthetic marijuana in Texarkana. The Texarkana Texas Police Department is actively working to locate the source of this tainted substance to prevent further harm to the community. Sgt. Kimberly Weaver of the Texarkana Texas Police Department has emphasized the dangers of synthetic marijuana and urged people to avoid using it.

"This senseless tragedy is a warning to our state. We can avoid further harm to Arkansas families if Governor Sanders and the legislature act now to ban delta-8 and other synthetic marijuana substances in Arkansas," says SAM Action Executive Vice President, Luke Niforatos. The organization is dedicated to advocating for evidence-based marijuana policies that prioritize public health and safety.

SAM Action is requesting swift action from Governor Sanders and the Arkansas Legislature to protect the people of Arkansas from the dangers of synthetic marijuana. These substances pose a significant risk to public health, and the recent events in Texarkana underscore the urgency of this issue. By banning Delta-8 THC and other synthetic marijuana products, Arkansas can prevent further tragedies and safeguard its communities.
