Lying Lips

Some, both men and women, have so perfected the art of lying for the purpose of getting dishonest gain that they fall into a special category, known as “con artist.”

One man in particular, George C. Parker, holds the infamous reputation of being one of the greatest con artists in American history. Being an accomplished salesman with a very persuasive way with words he set up an office in New York City. By producing authentic looking forged documents and deeds he managed to convince his unsuspecting victims, basically tourists, that he was the rightful owner of certain well known landmarks that he was selling, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden, and Grant’s Tomb. Several times those he had duped attempted to put up toll booths on their new purchase of the Brooklyn Bridge. Mr. Parker managed to amass a fortune preying on his hapless victims before being brought to justice. Following his third conviction for fraud he was sentenced to life in prison, where, after eight years he died in Sing Sing Prison.

“Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight” (Proverbs 12:22).

In the final days, Lying, along with signs and wonders (2 Thessalonians 2:9) will be the foremost tool of Satan in deceiving and bringing the majority of the world under his control, a tool that God cannot employ (Titus 1:2). It is said that a lie circles the earth seven times while the truth is still putting on its shoes.

It was the lying lips of Satan that led to the downfall of one third of the heavenly angels and plunged our world into sin, thus he is called by Jesus, a liar, and the father of lies (John 8:48).

After almost 6,000 years of honing his lying skills to absolute perfection, gullible weak mortals are an easy prey to his deceptions, and this skill he passes on to his followers, as he did with Mr. Parker.

“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Matthew 24:24).

But, it is not possible among those who love His law and are faithful students of His Word (Isaiah 8:20; John 10:29).
