Malvern Skate Park slowly taking shape
The long-awaited plans for a new skate park in Malvern, to be located at the corner of Locust and West 5th Streets, have been taking shape since the spring of 2022 but seemed to stall up until the fall of last year.
After the city set aside the property for use as a skate park early last year, not much was seen to be done until the heavy groundwork began in October 2022. Erosion underneath the existing slab made it necessary to raze the entire lot and install a new box drain, and most of the old concrete at the site was broken up into chunks by late November.
Not much more was apparent until recent weeks, when demolition activity at the site involved the removal of the vast majority of concrete and an observable leveling of the ground, in preparation for a new dirt foundation and eventual pouring of blacktop.
Workers are done installing the drainage system, and community organizers are seeking volunteers who want to help make sure the plans are seen through to fruition. The next steps will involve more precise measuring of the lot for the completion of “concrete/foundation and dirtwork,” as stated on a related post on social media, which urged the public to reach out to city officials in an attempt to spur them into further action on the project.
Activity onsite indicates the park plans are moving forward, although more specific information was not available by the time of this publication because city officials could not be reached for comment. Details will be released as they are forthcoming. For more information, email sk8thebricks@ outlook.com or call the city of Malvern Mayor’s Office.
