Lady Panthers on track to make noise for 2024 season

Cove Lady Panthers are focused to ignite a historic season on the diamond as they’ve already displayed some stout play to begin the 2024 softball season.

The Lady Panthers started their season on the road Monday and took down the Class 5A Hot Springs Lakeside Lady

Rams 14-2 in a five inning duel.

The Lady Panthers standout signee pitcher Bella Harville recorded the win and kept the strike zone intact from her damage in the circle against Lakeside. Harville allowed one hit, two runs and struck out two batter’s and threw 46 strikes across the plate that ignited a productive outing for the infield defense.

Offensivel­y, Marleigh Mccutcheon powered the offense in the frame and collected three hits, drove in one run for an RBI and scored three runs to surge the offensive execution. Mccutcheon also led the base running and recorded five stolen bases.

Hadley Herrington rounded around the bases to score two runs. Alexa Gangoso powered a hit and scored two runs, Kynsli Brashears collected a hit and drove in a run for an RBI, Mailyn Tanaka sparked for a hit with an RBI and scored two runs, Izzy Sawyer connected for a hit (double) with an RBI and scored two runs, while Ava Herrington drove in a run for an RBI and scored a run.

Gangoso and Maddi Fulmer each sparked on the base paths and had a stolen base.

On Tuesday, the Lady Panthers took on a tough Class 4A contender Bauxite in their season home-opener in Magnet Cove. The

Lady Panthers fought hard, but the visiting Bauxite Lady Miners prevailed in a 8-1 victory against Magnet Cove.

The Lady Panthers sparked for one run scored in the bottom of the second which kept the contest close, but the Lady Miners led 3-1. The Lady Panthers tallied four hits while Bauxite managed to score eight runs on 13 hits to break into double-digits offensivel­y in the frame.

Offensivel­y, Hadley Herrington led the offense with two hits, while standout signee Fulmer doubled and Mailyn Tanaka collected a hit against Bauxite. Fulmer drove in the lone run for an RBI and M. Tanaka scored the lone run of the outing.

In the circle, Fulmer brought the heat and pitched seven innings, allowed 12 hits, seven earned runs and struck out one batter and threw 70 strikes.

The Lady Panthers 1-1, are back to compete in a rivalry showcase for the Battle of Hot Spring County in Lion country to square against in-county rival Bismarck in a competitiv­e softball match-up. The showdown is scheduled to take place Monday in Bismarck.
