Tribe face off in big battles on the road

MOUNTAIN PINE — The Poyen Indians had a tough battle in their league play opener earlier this week on the road. The Tribe sparked in their offensive execution, but fell short to a good Mountain Pine Red Devils team 2-0 in their seventh inning match-up.

The Indians won the batting battle and collected four hits, but the Red Devils scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and finished with three hits in the frame for the execution.

The Indians’ Kullen Conner, Hayden Murray, Allen Fite (a double) and Trenton Russell led at the plate and powered a hit apiece. Murray and Conner led the base running with a stolen base.

On the mound, Conner pitched six innings, allowed three hits, two runs and struck out eight batters and threw 53 strikes while facing 25 batters.

SPRING BREAK BASEBALL ACTION

The Indians also had two competitiv­e match-ups during the spring break defeating Haskell Harmony Grove JV 8-2, but falling short to Harmony Grove varsity 10-0.

Conner ignited 10 strikeouts from the mound and earned the win against the JV Cardinals while Ryan Ray pitched two innings and struck out three batters. Ray, Conner and

Fite each drove in a run for an RBI while Ray and Conner each powered two hits apiece and Landon Crosby and Colt Barrett each sparked for a hit apiece.

Barrett led the scoring attack and scored three runs, Conner scored two runs and Ray, Hunter Woods, and Crosby each scored once to surge for the six-run victory.

The Tribes’ Barrett, Ray, Fite, Crosby and Conner led the base running and each had a stolen base.

Today, the Tribe returns to the diamond for conference play hosting Cutter Morning Star Eagles at the Poyen Indian Sports Complex.
