Bishop man who triggered “Justice for George” protests in jail on $2.5 million bail
George Clinton Barlow III, the man who suffered serious injuries requiring a prolonged stay in the hospital after a violent encounter with Inyo County Sheriff’s Deputies on July 24 and whose
George Barlow III encounter with them was filmed, triggering local “Justice for George” protests over police brutality, was arrested on Aug. 24 for a completely separate incident – on charges of suspected arson and on charges of five counts of suspected homicide, according to the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office.
He is in the Inyo County Jail on a $2.5 million bail.
According to the sheriff’s office post on Aug. 24, on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at about 12:40 p.m., the Bishop Volunteer Fire Department, the Inyo
County Sheriff’s Office, the Bishop Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire responded to reports of a structure fire on North Barlow Lane.
A fire on the front porch of the residence was extinguished by Bishop Volunteer Fire Department. The Bishop Volunteer Fire Chief, along with other law enforcement officials, began investigating the fire.
Through interviews
with the occupants of the residence and evidence located during the investigation, it was determined the fire was intentionally started.
George Clinton Barlow III was arrested on allegations of five counts of attempted homicide and one count of arson, the sheriff’s office said. Barlow III is currently being held at the Inyo County Jail on a $2.5 million bail, they said.
