On the evening of Sept. 11, members of the Bishop Fire Department and the public gathered together at the Bishop Fairgrounds in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Flight 95 and, to honor the 343 firefighters that lost their lives that day. The group of locals, numbering about 250-300, climbed 2,071 steps, or the equivalent of the number of stairs in the 110-story Twin Towers to raise money for the Fallen Firefighters Fund. Each climber in this ‘stair climb’ event carried with them the name of at least one of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives that day. www.mammothtimes.com
