San Rafael City school board seeks applicants
Unexpired term after trustee quits
San Rafael City Schools is accepting applications for a vacant seat on the board of trustees.
The appointee will finish the unexpired term of Rachel Kertz, who resigned after her election to the City Council last month. Kertz’s term on the school board ends in December 2022.
Residents who live in any area of the district are eligible to apply for the appointment. That is because Kertz was elected to a four-year, atlarge, districtwide term in 2018, prior to the district’s switch to zoned elections — also known as trustee area elections.
If the appointee chooses to run for a full, four-year term in the November 2022 elections, he or she would need to be a resident of the new Trustee Area 2. The area, in the northernmost part of San Rafael, includes neighborhoods such as Marinwood and Santa Venetia. A map of the trustee areas is available online at bit. ly/3aSSkeY.
Applications will be accepted through 4 p.m. Jan. 20. Public interviews of candidates will take place at a special board meeting at 4 p.m. Jan. 25. After the interviews, the four trustees will deliberate and vote on the appointment. The new trustee will be sworn in at the regular meeting that follows on the same evening.
Applications and attached resumes can be emailed to superintendent@srcs.org or mailed or hand delivered to the Superintendent’s Office, 310 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael, 94903. More information is available by visiting srcs.org/ board- elections, calling 415492-3233 or emailing superintendent@srcs.org.
San Rafael City Schools is the second Marin school district seeking candidates for a trustee appointment.
Sausalito Marin City School District officials said last week they are extending the application deadline to Jan. 15 for residents to apply to fill a vacant seat on the district’s board. The district announced several weeks ago it is seeking to fill the unexpired term of former trustee Josh Barrow, who resigned. The appointment will run to December 2022.
Application packets are available by contacting Steve Ayala at sayala@smcsd.org or 415-332-3190. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Jan. 15.
